Mary’s Day Update
November 13th, 2008
Earlier this year during a staff meeting, the idea of holding a special event to remember Mary began to form. Several meetings later we’d come up with a game plan and so a committee was formed with the remit of organising a garden party. If along the way we were able to raise some money we would donate it to the Princess Alice Hospice….
And some garden party that turned out to be!
Over 200 people thronged to our garden in East Molesey on September the 20th to join in the fun of Mary’s Day. The weather was fabulous – a real Indian Summer day to make up for wet August – helped make the day special.
There was something for everyone, from home made cakes and scones to packets of sweets, from face painting to face soaking in the stocks, from diet cokes to Pimms and all the trimmings, from a veggie burger to a 100% pure beef burger. Our Children’s Corner, complete with play house and sand pit featured a Splat the Rat and kiddies young – and old – sorted out their aggression by hitting the rat with a baseball bat.
Families and friends relaxed with a drink and a plate of food whilst enjoying the live music provided by Bad Hair Day who kindly donated their time and even threw in an encore.
We culminated the day by setting off the balloons donated by “The Fun Factory” in Teddington to the sound of ‘Your love is lifting me higher’ by Jackie Wilson. It was an emotional end to a perfect day where friends, family, colleagues and clients were able to remember and pay tribute to Mary.
But it didn’t stop there, 50 or so die-hards enjoyed dancing the night away to the disco in the boardroom, and at midnight we finally bid a fond farewell to the disco divas.
We raised over £5,700 on the day and from donations people have so generously sent both before and since the event. Almost £500 was raised by our studio survey, so a big thanks to you if you were able to take part.
We still have a little money to come and we’ll let you know the final figure once we have it.
The winner of the quiz was Robyn Harvey with 49 points. The silent auction winners were:
Face Painting - Cara Frost
Hygienist - Carey Kitch
Photo sitting - Richard Howell
Jack Latimer’s balloon made the furthest distance – all the way to Swindon!
We couldn’t have done this without the support of so many people and we would like to use this space to say a big thank you to all of you.
