Mary's Day Quiz

A quiz was held at the King’s Head, Hampton Court, to remember our beloved friend and colleague Mary Taylor. Past and present Viewpoint staff staff, along with Mary’s family, formed up in teams to compete for first place! The winning team consisted of Tom Slade, Jane Teader, Ruggles Latimer, Nikolai Bailey, Sarah Bailey, and Alison Trevett. The event and subsequent raffle raised a total of £500.00 for the Princess Alice Hospice. Thank you to all those that took part, and helped the PAH!

118 800

As you may have seen in the media, there is a new service on the horizon, known as 118 800. It is basically a directory enquiries service for personal mobile numbers. Various sources including the BBC and Sky websites, and the Observer newspaper recently ran reports on this service and incorrectly stated that the prime source of mobile telephone information comes from market research companies who ‘contact individuals and ask if they would be prepared to allow their numbers to be used for commercial purposes’. We would like to make it clear Viewpoint do not have any involvement in this in any sense, least of all selling any respondent details from our projects! We think this is a journalistic error and that they mean direct marketing companies, but we have made the MRS aware and they agree that ‘the use of data collected for research only for the purpose of constructing a telephone directory would be plainly unlawful’. According to 118 800 their database is populated mainly ‘from companies who collect mobile telephone numbers from customers in the course of doing business and have been given permission by the customers to share those numbers’.

Not Just Pretty Faces

Team Viewpoint take first place in pub quiz!

A team from Viewpoint (Gale, Tom, Ally, Nik, Emily and guest competitor Tom’s dad Chris) came first in Tuesday evening’s pub quiz at their local crooked, ancient pub, The Bell in East Molesey. This success follows a brace of second places at the Albion’s quiz, and hopefully heralds the start of a winning streak! The team won the grand total of £4.33 each in a fairly taxing quiz including questions such as the definitions of Ooologist and Thanatology, and the name of the plastic bit at the end of a shoelace!
